Grave Blankets by Trina Stolec
published in Volume 6, Issue 1 on March 1st, 1999

They materialized on Monday
before Thanksgiving
on old pegboard set by the road.
Plastic evergreens
dotted with plastic red, purple flowers;
grave blankets for the Holiday season --
warm lost loves for $19.95.
They flapped in wind,
were washed by rain,
wrapped in snow coats
    for over a month.
They disappeared.
In the graveyard,
graves lay warmed
by dead leaf blankets.
