The Rose Sheets by Teresa White
published in Volume 6, Issue 4 on December 31st, 1999

You are far away as oranges
rolling from a tree.
My backyard is bitter
in this slight wind .

I am married
as sheets to the clothesline
and necessary as pins
holding up the rose and plain ones.

The roses have faded
and stooping hurts me
more and more.
The walk back to the house seems longer;
more unsure.
